Not many days later, the younger son gathered all he had and took a journey into a far country, and there he squandered his property in reckless living.
You’ve probably heard an expression that says something to the effect of, “We live in a microwave society.” What this refers to is how people today seem to think that they shouldn’t have to wait to get what they want. Just like you can cook a meal in a microwave and have it in 5 minutes, you should be able to have anything else you desire in life in a relatively short time as well. With this in mind, stop for a moment and think about the quality of microwave food compared to the quality of a traditionally prepared meal. This should give you an idea of what happens when you try to obtain something quickly that God may intend for you to receive through a process. Even though you do get fed via a microwave, what you eat isn’t nearly the same quality in nutrition or taste that you would get by eating something that was prepared traditionally. You can probably recall a time in your life in which your waiting just a little while longer, would’ve have gotten you something much better than what you ended up with. The same is true with the things of God. Just like the prodigal son was the rightful beneficiary of his father’s inheritance, he wasn’t prepared to handle it properly. You may feel like God needs to give you what you’e asking for right now. But, in His eyes, and from His perspective, if you’ll just be patient and stick with Him, what He’s preparing for you will far exceed anything you could have ever asked for. Whether you’re waiting on a spouse, a ministry, or anything else, don’t hate the process, embrace it. The time that you spend waiting isn’t for God to prepare what He has for you, it’s for Him to prepare you to receive it. – Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff
