The funeral service for Ona Lorene (Hall) Martin, age 89, of Rockwall, Texas will be held at 1:00 P.M. Sunday, September 29, 2019 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Koch officiating. Interment will follow at Long Cemetery, and visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Lorene passed away on the morning of Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at Broadmoor Medical Lodge. She was born on January 8, 1930 in Cumby, Texas to Anna Lee and George Wallace Hall. She was the fourth of ten children and enjoyed telling stories about her family, her childhood, and growing up in east Texas where her parents were share-croppers.

Lorene was an entrepreneur and small business owner who operated a childcare business for 40 years out of her home in Garland, Texas. She loved children. She showed them respect and love, and they loved her. She listened to their stories and opinions and thoughts and asked them questions. No matter the age, she made everyone feel valued, important, and loved. Lorene’s faith was very important to her and a foundation that she built her life upon. She was a member of Great Hills Baptist Church in Austin, Texas.

Lorene loved fiercely and never missed an opportunity to tell her friends and family that she loved them and was proud of them.

Lorene is survived by her daughters, Judy Gantt, Anna Maxine Simpkins and her husband Don, Betty Friedell, and Reneé Stein and her husband Ronald; grandchildren, Nick Gantt and his wife Melody, Samuel Gantt and his wife Svitlana, Jason Simpkins and his wife Michelle, Hayden Simpkins, Christine Schmidt, Mark Friedell, Ellen Stein, Meghan Stein, Anna Stein, and Sophia Stein; great-grandchildren, Simeon Gantt, Gloria Gantt, James Gantt, Jeremiah Gantt, Christopher Gantt, Yari Gantt, Sasha Gantt, Oliver Gantt, Hadessah Gantt, Jordan Simpkins, Ian Schmidt, Alexis Schmidt, and Audrianna Hernandez.

Lorene was preceded in death by her parents, Anna Lee and George Wallace Hall, her eight brothers, David Hall, Truman Hall, Alvin Hall, Ray Hall, Clyde Hall, Bobby Hall, Boyd Hall, and Melvin Hall; her sister, Winona Hall Patterson, and her grandson, William Friedell.
