Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.
When it comes to bearing fruit, unfortunately, many Christians are more easily compared to a Christmas tree than a fruit tree. This meaning, that as pretty and welcoming as a Christmas tree may appear, there is really no benefit or life giving qualities to it whatsoever. Think about it for a moment. When you walk into someone’s home when their Christmas tree is set up you wouldn’t think for one second that you could walk up to and take anything from it. If you happened to have kids with you, you would do everything in your power to keep them as far away from it as possible for fear that they may damage it or one of its ornaments. A fruit tree on the other hand is there for the sole purpose (or you could say ‘soul’ purpose) of providing sustenance. Think about your life for a moment. How do you react when someone approaches you needing to experience the love of Christ? Do you have something that will be a benefit to them? Or do you get aggravated and wonder why they are bothering you? In other words, are you for show or are you really bearing fruit that will benefit those in your life. As a true follower of Christ, you are meant be more than just a pretty face or a run down house dressed up with a fresh coat of paint. It’s time to put your focus on not simply looking good but truly being good. You can bear fruit that makes an eternal impact on someone’s life. – Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff
