The Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, “Lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward.
Have you ever gone into a conversation with someone having already determined in your mind what the conversation what it was going to be about and how it was going to go? You may have anticipated what you thought was going be a difficult encounter and stayed up all night worrying about it. This tends to be the thought process many people find themselves in when it comes to seeking the Lord. They’re afraid to sit down and have what could be a life altering encounter with the Lord because they already think they know what God is going to say. In today’s text, Abram may have had the same ideas in his mind. God had already told Him to pick up everything and everyone he had and go. So what was He going to have to say to Him now? Many times, what God is wanting to tell you is to simply ‘look up.’ He’s not always looking to drop some heavy burden on you or do a massive redirect in your life, He simply wants to show you something to confirm what He’s already doing. As a believer, it’s easy to get so caught up in everything going on in your life that you lose sight of the bigger picture causing frustration and confusion to set in. Like with Abram, God may simply be saying, “Look up! Take your eyes off of everything else and put them on Me because I want to reaffirm the promises that I have made you in the past.” God did not put you in the box that’s currently confining you. He’s wanting you to see the destiny He has in store for you. Where you are now, good or bad, is not not your final destination. As long as you draw breath, He has plans to bring you into greater things. – Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff
