The City of Sulphur Springs has placed Public Safety Director James W. Sanders on paid administrative leave due to “his being involved in an ongoing criminal investigation by another agency.” A spokesman for Texas Commission on Law Enforcement confirmed to FrontPorchNewsTexas.com that their agency has an open and active investigation into Sanders. They did not provide further details.

The City of Sulphur Springs stated, “This action should not be viewed as an opinion on the merits of the investigation. At this time, we have no further comment.”

The Sulphur Springs City Council will be holding an executive session tonight to discuss personnel issues related to the Director of Public Safety. Jay Sanders was promoted from Sulphur Springs Police Chief to Director of Public Safety in November of 2017.

The special meeting of the Sulphur Springs City Council will be held at 7:00p.m. in the upstairs Conference Room at 201 North Davis Street.
