Field Days and Tours are a great educational method that combines several experiences at the same time. When we visit new places, the chances of experiencing new concepts and ideas are always refreshing. This time, The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension in Hopkins County is presenting the Field Day for Producers and Grasslands Managers scheduled for April 26, 2019 in Sulphur Bluff. During this field day, attendees will have the opportunity to see a fully operational livestock (goats and cattle) ranch using native grasslands. The day will start with an overview of Native Grasslands: Environmental benefits, Economic benefits and sustainability- Rotational / prescribed grazing -Optimizing various grass/forage types -Water development and tour of the location, followed by Lunch sponsored by NETBIO. After lunch, a brief presentation on fencing options, Rotational and other challenging pasture moves-Calving seasons followed by tour of the location will end the day. This program is free. Limited to first 25 participants. Register by calling The Hopkins County Extension Office at 903-885-3443 by April 5, 2019.
What to expect:
Interaction with local producers, site seeing of pasture land, hay ride to tour different locations on the field. Steak lunch. Schedule is flexible and might change according to weather conditions. Facilities available but restricted. Discussion on native grasses and farming methods.
