Texas Department of Transportation officials today announced that work to widen, rehabilitate and relocate a portion of State Highway 11 west of Sulphur Springs, Texas, will begin March 4.

Contractor DL Lennon, Commerce, Texas, was granted 247 working days, weather permitting, to complete this project valued at more than $5.1 million. The target completion date for this project is October 2020, officials said.

The project will encompass 2.48 miles of State Highway 11, westward from its intersection with State Highway 19 to the bridges at White Oak Creek. The existing roadway will be widened and rehabilitated, and a portion of the roadway will be relocated.

Motorists who regularly travel this portion of SH 11 in Hopkins County are asked to pay special attention to all signs, barricades and traffic controls, and reduce their speed as they approach and travel through work zones; especially while this construction is underway. They should also avoid distractions such as cell phones, eating, drinking, or car audio or navigation systems.
