Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to him in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher).
Your name, it is the sweetest thing that you could hear coming from the mouth of the Lord. Just like Mary in today’s text, everything chaotic and pressing seemed to drift away when He called her by name. Sometimes, you can find yourself in the place of seeking Him so hard that you don’t realize that you’ve found Him. Mary’s focus was so intent that she almost missed the very One she was searching for. But when He called her name with His loving voice, all other noise and distraction faded away and it was instantly just Him and her. The beautiful thing about this picture is that He is, right now, and always calling out to you. He knows your name and you are constantly on His mind. If you will set aside the time to listen you will hear Him calling out to you. He is wanting to bring calm to your storm, peace to your trial, and grace to your life. No matter what kind of despair or desperation you may find yourself in, He is never more than whisper away. He is waiting to reveal Himself to you in spectacular fashion and it simply begins by His calling out your name. – Merry Christmas, Pastor Jeff
