John 20:14
14 Having said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing, but she did not know that it was Jesus. 15 Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.”
How familiar are you with Jesus? If you were to run into Him in the store or at one of your kid’s ballgames, would you recognize Him? Besides the fact that you may not familiar with His physical appearance, when is the last time the two of you had a conversation? Most people are familiar with Jesus in sense that they have heard or read about Him, but personally He is not someone that they could say they truly know. He is merely an acquaintance from what could be many years ago. Mary Magdalene, who had walked with Him closely for two years didn’t know who He was even though He was standing right in front her. Like many people, her perception and expectation had been skewed by the chaos of the events that had recently taken place in her life. No one, who has been born again, would intentionally let their relationship with Jesus become this estranged, but without such intentionality it can get to that point. With the Christmas season being so current, have you been intentional in your relationship with your Savior? Was He a familiar figure over the last few weeks. Make sure that this season that is all about Him isn’t celebrated without Him. – Merry Christmas, Pastor Jeff.
