Deuteronomy 15:9-10
9 Take care lest there be an unworthy thought in your heart and you say, ‘The seventh year, the year of release is near,’ and your eye look grudgingly on your poor brother, and you give him nothing, and he cry to the Lord against you, and you be guilty of sin. 10 You shall give to him freely, and your heart shall not be grudging when you give to him, because for this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in all that you undertake.
Many people fail to see the rewarding side of giving because they try to use what they give to control the person or situation they give to. If they give money, they watch closely to see how it’s spent. If they give of their time or talents they try to take charge with their ‘helping’ and attempt to run the show. True giving has no strings attached. It doesn’t judge the recipient for their use of the gift that was given. When you give grudgingly you don’t really give to be a blessing or help. Rather, you give with the intent of changing or controlling someone or something. The purpose behind your giving should be to bless…period. This allows the Holy Spirit to come in and use your gift the way He sees fit and that probably won’t look a lot like what you had in mind. You will soon find out that the reward is in the release. There’s no unneeded pressure or stress because the outcome is not your problem to deal with. You simply release the gift and open yourself up to receive the blessing that the Lord is trying to place in your life through your obedience. – Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff
