John 5:19  (The Passion Translation) 

So Jesus said, “I speak to you timeless truth. The Son is not able to do anything from himself or through my own initiative. I only do the works that I see the Father doing, for the Son does the same works as his Father.

The biggest disconnect between Jesus ministry and the ministry of those who follow Him is as simple as the two prepositions ‘for’ and ‘from’.  While most people’s hearts really do seek to please God, they get suck in the religious mindset of doing things for God while Jesus did things as a man from God.  When Jesus walked the earth He didn’t do the things He did to get something from God, He did them because He was from God.  He had seen the Father and knew the Father’s heart not just for others but for Himself as well.  He knew that nothing could take Him from His place of Sonship.  He had daily times of communion and strengthening in the presence God through which He learned the will and plans of the Father.  He then went out from those moments representing the very things that He had seen while He was in the Father’s presence.  If you’ve bought into the lie that the things you do for God bring His presence into your life then you are trying to please based upon your own righteousness and according to the Word, no one is righteous outside of Him.  As simply as you can change your clothes, you can change your thinking.  The next time you stop to spend time with the Lord, ask Him what He sees, what He needs, and who you need to show His love to.  Go and do it empowered from by His presence not trying to find a way to work yourself into His presence. – Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff
