5 Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. 6 So, when he heard that Lazarus was ill, he stayed two days longer in the place where he was.
Today’s scripture is one of those that has made people question the method and timing of Jesus. If He loved Lazarus so much then why did He not drop everything and get to him as quickly as possible. Many scholars have given many reasons why they believe that Jesus handled things the way He did. Whatever answer you might come up with, one thing is certain…Jesus loved Lazarus. The fact that Lazarus died doesn’t change that. What this account does show is that no matter how dark or bleak the situation may seem, God can redeem and restore it. So whether Jesus’ plan was to show those around that He could truly raise the dead or whether it was to prove to Himself that He would be able to come back from the dead is of lesser importance than the fact that God was able to make something beautiful out a bad situation. Just like He loved Lazarus, He loves you. No matter what dreams, desires or promises that you feel may be dead and gone in your life, if they’re of God then He is well able to restore them. It’s time to stop asking, “Why?” and start asking the Holy Spirit to revive those things that you may have given up on. No matter how deep or how long you’ve buried them, He is well able to bring them back to life. – Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff
