John 15:13
Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.

For most people, when they read this verse, they immediately picture someone dying for someone else. But, just because Jesus was the one who was quoted in this scripture, and He is the one who died for all mankind’s salvation, doesn’t mean that He was referring to dying in this instance. If you’re born-again, dying shouldn’t scare you, so that shouldn’t be a major hinderance when it comes to sacrificing for someone else’s protection. Today’s scripture doesn’t say that someone ‘die’ for his friends, it says ‘lay down his life’. In other words, are you willing to put your ‘life’, your schedule, agenda, plans, etc. to the side in order to benefit someone else? Would you take time away from watching your favorite show, or working at a hobby to help someone who is in need? Maybe using a personal day at your job to be with someone who is hurting and in need of encouragement. People want to think that they would be willing to be the hero and risk everything to snatch the preverbal ‘baby out of the burning house’ when in actuality they have a hard time finding a spot in their schedule to do something good for their fellow man. ‘Greater love’, love that puts others needs before your own in everyday practical ways is becoming less and less common. Love that seeks the benefit of others even when no one is watching and when the recipient has nothing to offer in return. That’s the love Jesus is referring to, love that shows someone that they’re a priority to you, and in turn shows them that they’re priority to the Father as well. Who can you show the love of God to today? – Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff
