4-H Members District-Bound
Hopkins County 4-H members recently participated in five 4-H contests on the county level in preparation for district competition. 4-H is so much more than showing livestock. As a matter of fact, less than half of our 4-H members have animal projects. You might be surprised to hear that horticulture is the most popular 4-H project in Hopkins County, followed closely by shooting sports, foods & nutrition, robotics/STEM, photography, and clothing and textiles. The most popular animal project is dairy, followed by beef, poultry, swine and goats. Public Speaking and leadership are also popular projects among our Hopkins County 4-H members.
At a recent event, the following 4-H members participated in five contests. Below are the results.

Last Call for Do Well, Be Well with Diabetes
We have had numerous responses from individuals who plan to attend this series, but we still have room for a few more. If you or someone you know have been diagnosed with diabetes, this series will be beneficial in helping manage the disease. We’ll discuss food and its relation to blood glucose, how and when to check your blood glucose, what your numbers should be (Hemoglobin A1c, blood pressure, cholesterol, etc.), sick day management, role of physical activity in managing diabetes, medications, common diabetes complications and how to delay or prevent them, and celebrating sensibly with diabetes.
The cost for the series is $25, payable at the first session. Dates are April 9, 12, 16, 19, and 23. All session will be held at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office, 1200 W. Twogether in Texas
The busy season for weddings is rapidly approaching, and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension has an opportunity that is a win-win situation for engaged couples. The Twogether in Texas Marriage Education Workshop is scheduled for Saturday, May 12, from approximately 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Topics covered are marriage expectations, communication, conflict resolution, money management, and goal setting. The workshop is absolutely free, and lunch, refreshments, and door prizes will be provided. At the end of the one-day workshop, engaged couples will be given a certificate to save $60 upon applying for a marriage license. The certificate is good for one year from the date it is issued, so even if the wedding is not scheduled until next spring, it is still good.
Some couples may be skeptical, thinking there must be a catch. There is no catch. We are not selling anything, or pushing products of any sort. Texas A&M AgriLife Extension is all about educating people and that is exactly what this workshop does, through videos, couple interaction, and group activities. The workshop is offered three times each year – February, May, and August – so pick the workshop that is most convenient for you! Please call 903-885-3443 to sign up.
Have a Blessed Easter!
My family has always celebrated the significance of Easter. It is much more than cute bunny rabbits, egg hunts, cupcakes, and new Easter outfits. Easter is about new life, forgiveness, and the ultimate exhibit of unconditional love. So enjoy time with your family or friends, and be thankful that we are given such a great gift!
