YOUR TEXAS AGRICULTURE MINUTE: Celebrate National FFA Week Presented by Texas Farm Bureau’s Mike Miesse

National FFA Week will kicked off Saturday, for the 70th time, on Feb. 17. Since 1948, FFA week, taking in George Washington’s birthday, has been a celebration of agricultural learning, which our first president pioneered.

FFA began in 1928 and was known then as the Future Farmers of America. But FFA trains a lot more than farmers. The organization took the name FFA in the 1970s. Now, in the classroom and beyond, FFA prepares students for careers in agricultural business, science and many others.

This year, more than 650,000 FFA members will celebrate with events, projects and a continued devotion to Washington’s work ethic.

You’ll find FFA alumni in the leadership and staff of U.S. agricultural organizations and businesses.

Most of us are now far from the farm, in distance and generations. All of us need this foundation of agricultural education.
