OUR TEXAS AGRICULTURE MINUTE: What do farmers and ranchers want for Christmas? Presented by Texas Farm Bureau’s Mike Miesse

You’ve made your Christmas list, and I’ve made mine. But what do Texas farmers and ranchers want for Christmas?

Well, of course, red tractors, green combines and a good four-wheeler probably make that list.

Santa’s pockets aren’t that deep, though.

What farmers and ranchers want from Santa is good weather. This year has been a challenge. We saw hurricanes, tornadoes and wildfires. A year of good weather and timely rains in 2018 would be welcome.

They also want fat calves and good crops. Both want good prices, and they’d like to see farm income rise out of its slump.

Good trade relationships and a still functioning North American Free Trade Agreement shouldn’t be too much to ask for. Agriculture could also use a break from expansive and overbearing government regulations. And how about a better understanding from consumers of what they do.

Farmers and ranchers also want the same as the rest of us—healthy families, peace on earth and goodwill to men.

Santa, are you listening?
