On Monday night a Hopkins County Sheriffs Deputy observed a grey Honda van bearing a temporary registration travelling east on I-30 with a defective headlight. A traffic stop was initiated and the driver was unable to provide a valid driver’s license. The driver was placed under arrest for No Driver’s License.

The vehicle was occupied by nine other Hispanic males. The occupants told officers they had paid individuals to bring them illegally into the USA from Mexico and they were now being taken to another location to work so they could pay their debt to the “coyotes”(a term for human smugglers). The driver told officers that he was taking the occupants from Dallas to Mississippi in order to work. Officers believe the driver encouraged and/or induced multiple person to enter or remain in this country in violation of federal law by concealing, or shielding these persons from detection. The driver was taken into custody and has been charged with Smuggling of Persons.
