From Athletic Director Blake Hill:
Miller Grove, Saltillo, and Sulphur Bluff made Hopkins County proud today!
Big shout out to Gary and his kids over at Miller Grove winning another State Title! I think credit goes to Coach B for pushing the kids at our 3 schools to want to compete at the highest level in this state in this sport.
Also, Coach Giles and his boys ran well finishing 2nd. Their kids have been tough to run against all year.
I think its awesome that our 3 programs can compete with each other like we do within our districts, but when we all get on the big stage, I know Coach Billingsley and Coach Giles were getting after my kids just like I was their kids! We want to see our schools and our districts succeed. That just shows you what those 2 guys are all about and I appreciate that!
Sulphur Bluff finished 4th, Team Score 168, Average Time: 18:25.98
Turner South- 16:59
Montana Hurley- 18:10
Ishmeal Wade- 18:28
Trayton South- 18:57
Shane Johnson- 19:34
Jonathan Brown- 20:01
I cannot say enough about these 6 boys. They have not missed many workouts since we started on June 12th. They knew that it would not be easy, and they knew that it would be tough. They set a goal 6 months ago and went out and achieved it today. I could not be more proud of these 6 boys and they need to know that! When every one told them they were crazy from putting in the mileage that they have, they never blinked and pushed forward toward their goals.
Turner has led the way for us all year and in his final race he led his team in a way that only he could! Montana has continually improved all year and been our #2 since the Lindale meet on Oct 7th. Ish and Trayton have come up big together at Regionals, and State the past two years and it just shows what kind of competitors they are. Shane battled sickness in late September and bounced back to run his two best races at Regionals and State. Jon has continually improved throughout the year.
4th place is the highest finish for any “team sport” in Sulphur Bluffs history. I do not think these kids realize what that means yet, but one day they will look back and appreciate what they did for each other and their community over the last 6 months.
