Ever since Hurricane Harvey hit, Sulphur Springs’ FFA chapter as well as others in our area wanted to do something for the people affected. Over the last month they have been collecting items to help local farmers and ranchers who lost so much. Between Sulphur Springs FFA, Cumby FFA and other Chapters from the Paris area they have collected over 4 tons (8,000+ pounds/ 160+ bags) of feed. They made Sulphur Springs the drop location for all donated items and used the school trailer as the transportation trailer. They found a drop location in Kirbyville, Texas that served that area as well as Vidor, Tx and other areas further south. Saturday morning 3 SS FFA members; Blaine Flemens, Breanna Sells, Phillip Rater and Mr. Holland traveled 4 hours to Kirbyville, Tx. Upon arriving there was a 18-wheeler from Kentucky unloading hay so the students decided to help with that until they unloaded their feed. These students had to unload over 4 tons of feed as well as a couple pallets of shavings by hand. Blaine, Breanna, and Phillip all gave up over 13 hours of their Saturday to help other people they did not know. Mr. Holland extremely proud of all the students that helped collect, organize, and deliver items, SSISD for allowing us to use the school truck and trailer, as well as all that helped from the community.
