The water marks are still visible and the pain is still raw one month after Hurricane Harvey arrived in Texas.

The Category 4 storm affected millions of people in urban areas—a tragic situation we saw play out on the news. But the story of rural Texas was one not told as often.

We still don’t know the full impact of Harvey. That will take time.

But what we do know is rural Texas has heart. Watching a year of work float away with raging floodwaters isn’t easy. But farmers are already back in the field. They’re attempting to move forward, even if sometimes it feels like they’re taking steps backward.

You can help. Texas Farm Bureau’s Agriculture Education and Research Foundation has established a relief fund to help farmers and ranchers in counties designated a federal disaster area. Make your tax-deductible donation at www.texasfarmbureau.org.
