Accidents can happen in an instant, and being prepared can be the difference between life and death. That’s why we observe National Farm Safety and Health Week.

The agricultural sector is still the most dangerous job in America, according to the Department of Labor. There are about 570 fatalities in a year. That number is tough to hear and even more difficult when tragedy strikes your family.

I can’t argue that jobs in agriculture are some of the most dangerous. Farmers and ranchers, along with landowners and farm employees, know farm safety is of the utmost importance.

It’s being safe and aware on roadways. It’s also operating farm equipment carefully, knowing the limits of implements and yourself.

Health—both physical and mental—is just as important. This week also recognizes keeping our youth safe and staying aware of confined spaces—like grain bins.

Because one accident, one day, one moment could be life changing and life threatening.
