It is no surprise that 4H is good for kids. The civic center has been full of great kids for the last few days. 4Hers have worked hard to raise, train, and now they are showing their market animals.  However, one thing that does surprise many people is the number of opportunities for kids outside of the animal show-ring.

There is a 4H club in Hopkins County focused on learning about Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The group will send five kids from Hopkins County to compete in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Agri-science Contest and six to compete in the Public Speaking Contest.

The kids will get to practice for competing in Houston next week at the local contest, the Bobby McDonald Memorial 4H Roundup. The contest will be graciously hosted by Cedar Canyon. In addition to public speaking contests, it will feature fashion, food, and consumer decision contests. Last night, several of the kids got to practice for the upcoming contests by giving their speech to the residents of The Hopkins House.
