Yantis Woman Diagnosed With Cancer,
Community Benefit Planned For July 31st
by: Bobby McDonald
It's the news that no one wants to hear, but it's all to often heard in the greater Hopkins County Area. Yantis native and resident, Dawna Mott Modrall, had a place appear on her leg, a few weeks ago, and when her mother persuaded her to go to the skin doctor to have it seen about, she received the terrifying news that it was melanoma. Dawna, daughter of Phyllis and Jerry Miller, of Yantis, and Gary and Mary Mott of Saltillo, was scheduled for surgery and tests on Tuesday, July 6, 2010, and went to Baylor Hospital in Plano, on Monday. They will remove the cancer from her leg and will test her lymph nodes to make certain that it hasn't spread to other parts of her body.
"All I can tell you to do is pray and pray really, really hard," expressed Phyllis Ponder, Dawna's mother. "Hopefully, we'll find out on Tuesday that it hasn't spread to her lymph nodes and is contained in the leg, but we won't know until the tests are completed. Once the tests and surgery are completed, we'll know what kind of treatments will be required."

Friends and family members from Yantis, are planning a medical benefit for Dawna and her family, on July 31, 2010, at the Yantis Community Center and Park, to help defray medical costs and offer their love and support.
Plans are for hamburgers, hot dogs, bounce houses, a band, and other family fun. All proceeds will go to Dawna's medical account to aid her in her medical expenses.
Dawna, a former employee of City National Bank in Yantis, is now serving as "sitter" for an elderly man with Alzheimers, so needs the aid in defraying her medical expenses.
Make plans to attend this benefit, on July 31st and lend your support in Dawna's fight with cancer!
If you are unable to attend, a medical expense account has been created at City National Bank, to accept donations!
