Shelby Allen, Valedictorian Courtney Lacy, Salutatorian

In a recent announcement from Yantis High School, it is Shelby Allen and Courtney Lacy, who will lead the 2010 graduating class at Yantis, this year as the Valedictorian and Salutatorian. Shelby is the daughter of David and Margie Allen of Yantis, and Courtney is the granddaughter of Patsy Harris of Yantis.

Class Valeditorian, Shelby Allen graduates with a 4.08 grade-point average. Throughout her high school career she has been involved in the Math and Science Club, Student Council, Spanish Club, and was on the yearbook and newspaper staff at Yantis High School. Shelby was a starter all four years on the Lady Owl varsity basketball team and received the "Newcomer of the Year" award as a freshman and was all-district each year. She played tennis doubles, qualifying for the regionals her sophomore, junior, and senior years.

Shelby plans to continue her education at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, in Belton, Texas, where she plans to pursue a degree in nursing.

Class Salutatorian, Courtney Lacy has been active in the Yantis FFA Chapter, serving as an Area VI vice-president, Mineola District officer, and as a chapter officer. She was a state qualifier in extemporaneous speaking and will compete in the state contest at the State FFA Convention in July. Courtney has a been a Yantis High School varsity cheerleader and a member of the Spanish Club, FCCLA, Math and Science Club, Beta Club, and competed in UIL events.

Courtney plans to attend Texas State University, in San Marcos, and major in Family and Childhood Development, with plans to pursue a career as a child-life specialitst.
