There are 90 FFA chapters that make up the Area VI FFA Association. Each year, two representatives from each of the four districts are elected to serve in the upcoming school year as area officers. Courtney Lacy, 2008-2009 Yantis FFA Vice-president, was elected as the area secretary for the 2009-2010. There were several steps involved in being elected as an area officer. Courtney had to take a test over the FFA Official manual, was interviewed by a panel of ag teachers, and presented a speech both the district and area conventions to receive votes from the delegate body. This leadership role carries a lot of responsibilities. Responsibilities that Courtney is more than ready to undertake and instill in other FFA members as she presents workshops at various FFA camps and events in the upcoming year. The FFA is the largest student led organization. Courtney hopes to be elected to serve on the state officer team in 2010-2011 as she is truly passionate about the FFA organization and the leadership and citizenship that come from being an active member.
Courtney has accomplished a lot in her FFA career this year. Along with being a chapter officer, she also serves as a district officer. Courtney participated in the senior creed speaking contest in the fall and placed first in district and missed qualifying for the state contest by one place with her fourth place win at the area contest. This spring she will compete as a member of the poultry judging career development event team, help plan and carry out FFA week events, participate in public speaking event contests, end of year banquet planning, outdoor education day planning, and local chapter meetings. We are fortunate and so very proud to have her call Yantis FFA home.
