For the instructors and the participants, the 2009 Yantis Basketball Camp ended on Thursday, with much enthusiasm and improved skills, following four days of fundamentals and fun. Over sixty students participated in the event, from Quitman, Sulphur Springs, Yantis, and Emory.

2009 Yantis Basketball Camp.
Participants in this year's camp were divided into three age groups: 1st - 3rd grades, 4th-6th grades, and 7th - 9th grades. "That gives students the opportunity to participate with others their own age and to work with age appropriate drills," advised Jack Bowles, the head baseketball coach at Yantis High School. "We wanted to encourage each age group to develop their potential and work toward meeting individual goals, as they went through the camp."

Instructors for this year's camp included: Bowles, Tina Carrillo, new Lady Owls Basketball/Volleyball Coach, and Assistant Varsity/Middle School Coach, Joe Garcia. "It's great to be on the job and working with these youngsters," advised Carrillo. "It's fun to work with them in the summer, when you have time to work individually and help each youngster improve their skills!"

"I'm excited about the season," expressed Garcia. "With the fundamentals that these students learned during the camp, it can't help but improve their game and the season, once we get started!"

the last day of camp.
"It won't be too long before summer vacation will be over and we'll all be back to school and working every day in athletics," reminded Bowles. "But, it's great to come out, spend four days with the youth, and help them work on individual needs and develop better basketball skills. The camp was a great success and I look forward to getting started, once school begins!"
