The gorgeous weather on Saturday complemented the First Annual "Wine in the Pines" event hosted on the historic downtown square, in Mt. Vernon. Activities began on Friday afternoon at 6:00 until 9:00 p.m., and then re-opened on Saturday from 8:00 a.m., until 4:00 p.m. The event attracted thirteen Texas wineries who came to display and offer their wines for sampling, along with a variety of cheeses and other accompanying hors d' eurves  to complement the wines. Wineries from the Northeast Texas region and from as far away as the High Plains and the Hill Country were on hand to offer their specialties.

A number of people from Sulphur Spring were in the crowd, as they enjoyed the weather and the wine.

"We're hoping for this to be even bigger and better next year," explained one of the organizers of Saturday's event. "Now that we have the first one 'under our belt' we know a little bit more of how to plan and the things necessary to make it even bigger and better for the next one!"

A number of arts and crafts booths were also on the square as a complementary experience and the downtown antique stores were open to offer even another aspect of Saturday enjoyment. Restaurants in the downtown area were also available for lunch.

"It's was just a great day of fun!" expressed one of those in attendance from Sulphur Springs. "We'll definitely plan on being back next year!"
