2009 Wildcats Sneak Across North
Sulphur River and Take
33-21 Victory Over Paris
by: Bobby McDonald

It was a night of frustrations and adjustments as the 2009 Sulphur Springs Wildcats crossed the North Sulphur River and met-up with the Paris Wildcats for the opening game of the season. However, the Wildcats walked away with a 33-21 victory in their column, to mark their efforts. The Wildcats will be at home, next Friday night, as they meet Whitehouse, in their first game before the home crowd.
The Wildcats scored first with a touchdown and extra-point, with over nine minutes still to play in the first quarter, leading 7-0. However, the Paris Wildcats came back and tied the score with six minutes to play in the first period.
Following a series of dropped balls, turnovers, and incomplete passes, Sulphur Springs scored another touchdown and made the extra-point, to lead 14-7, at the end of the first period.
Neither team scored in the second period, with the Sulphur Springs Wildcats leading 14-7, at the halftime intermission.
On an interception, the Paris Wildcats again tied the score, during the third period, 14-14. However, Sulphur Springs managed to score another touchdown, and led 21-14.
Sulphur Springs managed an interception of their own and made it to the goal line, but failed to make the extra-point and led 27-14. However, the Paris Wildcats began a drive and managed one more touchdown.
Late in the game, Sulphur Springs scored another six points, and clinched the game, leading 33-21. They were at the "brink" of another scoring drive, with approximately a minute on the clock, when Sulphur Springs Quarterback Colton Lee, "took the knee" in two plays, to allow the clock to run out, and win the game.
