Friday Night

If there was any doubt that the Wildcats still had their eye set on play-off action, they made believers out of them on Friday night, as they solidly defeated the Mt. Pleasant Tigers, in Mt. Pleasant. Following two district losses to Longview and Texas High, and an open weekend, the Wildcats "showed-up" to play and made an impressive night out of the occasion, as they defeated the Tigers 47-7.
From the onset of the game, the Wildcats dominated play, by scoring four times in the first quarter of action, and then leading 33-0 at the halftime intermission. "Both the offense and defense played awesome," stated a smiling Coach Greg Owens, as he reflected on the game. "There were very few mistakes during the game and everyone 'steppped-up' to the plate and played football!"
Owens credited the win to "a passion and desire on everyone's part and a team effort in getting the job done." The Cats accumulated 224 rushing yards and another 198 passing yards, compared to only 101 rushing and 78 passing yards for the hosting Tigers. "It's great to see your team go out and execute the plays that you've worked on all week, and see them work," continued Owens. "Our defense pretty well 'shut-down' the Tiger's attack and then our offensive line allowed plays to happen and enabled us to score on some valiant efforts by several individuals. We were a threat from all angles!"
The Wildcats, now 2-2 in District are at the very same place they were in the stellar 2008 season, as they will be hosting Marshall at Gerald Prim Stadium, in the final home game of regular season. Friday night will be Senior Night, then the Cats will travel to Hallsville for the final game of the season on November 6th.
