Wildcats "Take A Whuppin'" From
Referees and Bear Cats, Friday Night

Wildcats and their fans made the hour drive to Sherman and "went down in the hole," that is Bear Cat Stadium, and came out with "claw marks" all over their backs, from both the referees and Bear Cats! Wildcats and their coaches will be watching film all week to determine if adjustments need to be made or if the massive amount of penalties the Wildcats received were an overzealous attempt by the referees.

"I think the referees just thought the yellow of those flags matched our uniforms and naturally gave the penalties to us," quipped one Wildcat fan, as he talked about the lengthy game, with 12 penalties for over 120 yards, received by the Wildcats. "Everytime you turned around there was a face-mask or holding penalty called against the Wildcats, and from the stands it didn't look like we were playing any different than usual. Of course, this was the Dallas Chapter of Referees calling this game, and that may have had something to do with it! Regardless, it seemed like the penalties were more aggressive toward the Wildcats, but then I may have been prejudiced, too!"

Meanwhile, because of the massive amounts of penalties, it was almost 11:00 when Friday night's game was completed in Bear Cat Stadium.

And, when the "dust settled" it was the Bear Cats 60 and the Sulphur Springs Wildcats 34, giving the Wildcats only the second loss of the season, and a very frustrating night of football, "over in the blackland!"

The Wildcats played hard football and had some great moments offensively, executing their game plan, only to have some of them brought back by penalties or turnovers. Justin Owens was "picked-off" four times and the Bear Cats managed to gain good yardage and score on all of them. The Bear Cats were a good football team and able to take advantage of all the turnovers the Wildcats allowed.

Meanwhile, the Wildcats "picked-off" two of Sherman's passes and managed to score a touchdown on one of them.

It was a night of frustration for the Wildcats and Wildcat fans and one that will be talked about all week, as preparations are made for the Greenville game, on Friday night. "It's one of those games that just didn't go our way and we can sit and talk about it forever, and still not win the ball game," expressed Greg Owens. "We've got to go back and look at the penalties and see what corrections we need to make, then put this game behind us and focus on Greenville!"

The Wildcats are 1-1 in District play and 4-2 for the season.
