Wesley Methodist Church Hosts
Annual Stew and Auction

Empty pots of stew and chili proved that the food was great, another year, at the
annual Wesley United Methodist Church Auction, Saturday night.

And, it was members of the Wesley United Methodist Church that gathered on Saturday night, also, to conduct their annual Stew and Chili Supper and Auction. Members cooked stew and chili and extended the "welcome mat" to those from the community, to raise money to fund a variety of missions at the church. "It's worth the trip just to go and eat the desserts, that were homemade by the Wesley women!" advised Jimmy Winfrey, a member of Shooks Chapel Methodist. "We come every year to support the effort at Wesley and to enjoy the great food!"

"I cooked everyone of those cakes!" quipped Marvin Jones, as he "watched over" the chili pot, that he had worked on. "It must of been pretty good, because we're out of chili!"

"The secret to a good auction is to get everyone full and comfortable, but you've got to make sure you don't get them so full that you have them going to sleep!" advised Jones, a veteran of the auction business and a member at Wesley Methodist. "You want them paying attention and raising their hand. But, of course, if you 'catch them asleep,' you can 'hang 'em' with something too!"

Saturday nights auction featured a number of pies, cakes, handmade items, and those donated by local businesses.

"It's always a night of celebration with members, friends from the community, and your family," expressed Jones. "And, if you're real 'crafty' you can persuade some of these politicians to bid on some of this stuff. I've already spotted some of them in the crowd!"

Saturday night's Wesley United Methodist Church Auction was a success as friends and neighbors joined hands in raising funds!
