Saturday morning rains resulted in "scattered" amounts across Hopkins County, but all moisture was appreciated
to the area which was needing the rainfall.

Weekend Rains Blessing For
Hopkins County

About the only people that didn't welcome Saturday morning's nice rain, were those people who were
attempting to "set up" at the Flea Market, on the downtown square. It made for rather "soggy"
conditions, on the square.

Most people in Hopkins County awoke on Saturday morning to the "pitter-patter" of rain on their roof. "Great sleeping weather!" declared one local resident. "I just 'snuggled' a little deeper, under the covers and said, 'let it rain!"

The entire Hopkins County region received rainfall in a general rain that "dumped" varying amounts all across the area. Reports from the Como and Yantis regions were that they received up to 3 inches of rainfall, while the "official" reading at the Sulphur Springs Water Treatment Plant, only recorded 1.4 inches.

"We got more out our way," declared Reilly Springs resident, Vera Harrington. "And, there were reports of some electricity being out, over on Hwy-154, when the storm moved through the area. We're thankful for every drop!"

Some from the North Hopkins area only reported getting an inch of rainfall, but were excited about that amount.

Pastures in Hopkins County received a "much needed boost" with the weekend rains.

The rainfall should improve the pasture conditions in Hopkins County and if the cooler temperatures don't "linger" too long, there is still time to finish making a cutting of hay, for local farmers, unless we get an early frost. Our ususal frost date is over a month away and the grass in the hay meadows can grow during that time, to make the cutting of hay.

"As dry as it was during the summer, I need another cutting of hay," advised one local farmer. "I made fairly decent cuttings back in the early part of the season, but I needed some more hay after it got so dry during July and August!"

Most all of us welcome the cooler temperatures that we're experiencing this week, and enjoying the cool evenings and early mornings.

Pastures had become dry in Hopkins County, but the weekend rains will improve their
quality and hopefully produce additional hay for local farmers.
