"Does My Water Taste Funny?

Press Release from
City Manager Marc Maxwell

Our transformer at the Cooper Lake Pump Station failed yesterday leaving us unable to pump from the lake.  We immediately switched over to Lake Sulphur Springs for our water supply.  The water may taste a bit strange for a few days since the treatment process for the two lakes is quite a bit different, and it will take awhile to adjust.

We have found another transformer in Temple for $23,500, but we think we can have our existing transformer rebuilt for much less.  Thankfully we have secondary water source, and we have plenty of time to compare prices and evaluate options.

We think the reason for the failure may have something to do with the power supply.  As it turns out, the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) also experienced a failure.  One of their two 5,000 horsepower pump motors failed.  Oncor is looking into it.

Cooper Lake is currently 6 feet low.
