Thursday, November 11th will mark the 92nd observance of Veteran's Day and Hopkins County will join the nation in honoring those men and women who have fought for and preserved our freedoms.

The day will begin with a special Veteran's Day program and observance at Cumby School, in the High School Gym, at 9:00. Highlight of the program will be a video presentation edited and produced by a Cumby High School student in 2006, when his brother was serving in Iraq.

Then at 10:15 a.m. the Sulphur Springs High School Marching Band and school students from across Hopkins County will begin arriving on the downtown square, in Sulphur Springs. The program will include speakers who are veterans from several wars, a C-47  WWII Aircraft will present at "fly-over" at 11:00, the ceremonial "ground breaking" for the Veteran's Memorial, and a "firing salute" by the Hopkins County Military Coalition. Macy McIllawain will present her rendition of "Taps" to end the program.

Then, at 1:30 p.m., the focus will make its way to Como-Pickton School, where members of the Como-Pickton FFA will honor the veterans who live in the eastern part of Hopkins County.

So, it's a full day of Veteran's Day observances, all across Hopkins County.

The banks and a number of federal offices will be closed on Thursday, in observance of the holiday!
