Veteran's Fly-In Attracts Crowd and
Raises Funds For Veteran's Memorial
by: Bobby McDonald
It was a large crowd of aviation enthusiasts, as well as those who "just followed the crowd," at Sulphur Springs Municipal Airport, on Tuesday afternoon as they attended the Veteran's Memorial Fly-In. The 6:00 p.m. event found Veteran's Committee members cooking hamburgers and the VHF Squadron (Veterans Having Fun) taking to the air for a wonderful show, featuring their 2 seat tandem-tail wheel aircraft, commonly known at "taildraggers."

Piloted by retired military pilots, the homebuilt experimental aircraft planes were definitely a "hit" with local spectators, as the pilots offered a number of passes and maneuvers for the crowd.

Jerry Voss served as the Master of Ceremonies and kept the audience abreast of the various moves that the group would be displaying for the audience, during Tuesday's show.
Local radio personality, and former pilot, Bill Bradford, was revealed as being a passenger in the lead plane, at Tuesday's event, and waved to the crowd as he exited the aircraft. "I guess no one ever gets too old to have fun!" quipped Bradford, following his landing. "This is the first time I've ever ridden in a plane like this!"
Pilots, their wives, and Veteran's Memorial Committee members visited with the crowd and accepted donations to the Veteran's Memorial Fund.

"It was a great event and raised some more of the needed funds that are needed for the memorial," expressed Vickie Lee, one of the Veteran's Memorial Committee Members. "It's great for everyone to come out and support the memorial!"
Pilots and their wives were treated to a breakfast at The Red Barn, on Wednesday morning, as they planned their exit from Sulphur Springs Municipal Airport.
Thanks to the pilots for making this show possible in Hopkins County!
