United Way Hosts Luncheon
For This Year's Vounteers, Thursday
by: Bobby McDonald
United Way volunteers enjoyed a BBQ luncheon, catered by Big Smith BBQ, on Thursday,
at lunch, as they made plans for the campaign.
It was a day of expectations and solidifying the plans for the 2009 Hopkins County United Way Campaign, as workers assembled at the Southwest Dairy Museum for lunch on Thursday. Workers enjoyed Big Smith BBQ and heard plans from United Way President John Sellers and Campaign Chairman Deborah Evans. "It's a big challenge to raise and meet the goal of $150,000.00, this year," explained Sellers and Evans. "But, these agencies that serve the less fortunate in our community are depending on us to raise the funds to continue their programs!"

"This community has always 'stepped-up' and supported the efforts of funding these agencies," expressed Sellers. "And, I anticipate them continuing their support and making certain that these agencies remain funded!"
2009 United Way Campaign Chairman, Deborah Evans, encourages those who are collecting
funds, and expresses the great need for continued support.
"The economy continues to 'lag' behind other years," continued Evans. "But, we've just got to make certain that we 'dig deeper' and help those agencies that are getting greater demands for aid, from those in need! There's a real need out there for these funds, we'll be collecting!"

Workers were distributed their packets on Thursday and will begin delivering them in the community, asking local businesses and individuals to "Give the United Way," in the coming weeks. Hopes of raising the $150,000.00 goal will be a reality, if everyone continues to remember those who need the money and make the sacrifices to meet the goal!"
United Way CEO, Charlotte Henderson, fields questions from the audience, at Thursday's
volunteer luncheon, held at the Southwest Dairy Museum.
