"We Love Wet Money!"
United Way Campaign Hosts First
Reporting Meeting
by: Bobby McDonald

It was a wet morning as Deborah Evans, 2009-10 United Way Campaign Chair, hosted her first reporting meeting, on Tuesday morning, at the Hopkins County Extension Office Board Room. Floods had the creek at the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center overflowing, nearby, and workers began bringing in their packets amidst a rainstorm. "We love wet money!" exclaimed Charlotte Henderson, as she began opening the wet packets and counting the many donations.
When the meeting was over, it was reported that the campaign had reached 7.6% of its $150,000. goal with collections of $11,443.00. "This is a great beginning!" exclaimed Evans. "And, the great part was that we received so many positive comments from our volunteers, who are delivering the packets! Success stories were shared from around the room and we have many businesses that are already over their goal from last year!"

The Sulphur Springs Pilot Club and Fidelity Express both were cited for exceeding their goal, and the campaign is still in its infancy. Throughout the rest of the month, reporting meeting will be held on each Tuesday to turn in campaign donations and check the progress of the annual campaign.
"Give the United Way, is all that I can say!" expressed Evans. "The agencies that depend on these funds in our community, are counting on us to raise the funds for them and many of them are receiving even more requests for aid, with a sluggish economy!"
