First Night of UPRA Rodeo Action
Produces "Spills & Thrills"
Thursday Night

Thursday night's Saddle Bronc competition proved to be a tough sport!

There were winners and losers when the "eight second" buzzer sounded, on Thursday night in the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center, as cowboys and cowgirls competed in the 30th Annual Hopkins County UPRA Rodeo. Some found the going tough, as the particular rough stock animal they drew, didn't cooperate, while others managed to walk away with a good score and hopes of "hitting the pay dirt" by the end of the rodeo on Saturday night.

It was hard to determine the winner in this Ranch Bronc Ridding event!

Regardless, it was an action-filled night that found plenty of excitement for the spectator and promised to be three nights of no-stop competition in Sulphur Springs.

These cowboys were getting ready for their ride, behind the chutes.

Enjoy the following photos that capture some of Thursday night's action:

Steer Wrestling proved to be a "down and dirty" sport for this Stephenville cowboy, but he managed to
maintain the lead in the event.

This Drill Team from Canton performed for the crowd.

And, the youth Calf Scramble proved to be a popular event among local children.

Cowgirl's Breakaway Roping proved a challenge for some!

And, some "lady" from Wisconsin entered the arena, but there was strong resemblance to
the Mayor of Sulphur Springs.

And, the 12-16 year old youth participated in a steer scramble that proved to be a "hookin'" affair!

Tie-down Calf Roping proved to be a successful event for this cowboy....

with the "Red" team winning the contest, as they crossed the finish line first!!!!
