SSHS Hosts UIL Meet
And Currently In 2nd Place

 

 

The District 13-4A UIL Academic Spring Meet was hosted by Sulphur Springs High School this past weekend.  Seven schools competed at the meet.  Hallsville won the sweepstakes trophy with 477 points earned so far.  The second place trophy is still up for grabs. At the close of the meet Saturday, Sulphur Springs was in second place with 240 points followed by Texas High with 220 points, Pine Tree with 195.5 points, Mt. Pleasant with 121 points, and Marshall with 6 points.  The One-Act Play competition, which will be held Wednesday, Mar 31, 2010, will determine the final placements.

 

So far, seventeen SSHS students have advanced to the Regional Meet.

 

In Accounting, Jace Orren placed 1st, Syndi Nguyen placed second, Kyle Mathes placed 3rd, and Mallorie Taylor placed 4th.  The team won first place.

 

In Current Issues and Events, Sam Long placed 2nd and Taylor Moore placed 6th individually.  They along with Bailee Petty and Cole Cable earned 3rd place team.

 

 

 

In Computer Applications, Courtne Anderson earned 1st  place and Jessica Cowley earned 4th place.

 

In Computer Science, Connor McCorkle earned 1st place, Jeff Spears earned 3rd place,   and Taylor Ausbrooks earned 4th place.  Kade Koon also helped the team earn a first place team win.

 

In Headline Writing, Katy Mason placed fourth.

 

In Literary Criticism, Emily Mason placed 2nd, Katy Mason placed 4th, and Leah Hayes placed 6th.  Jessica Cowley helped the team to win 1st place.

 

In Spelling and Vocabulary, Lyndsi Bible placed 1st,  and Ashley Clegg placed 5th individually. Andrew Wallace and Silvia Gudino helped the team win 2nd place.

 

In Ready Writing,  Autumn Keiss earned 2nd place.

 

In Social Studies, Cole Cable placed 1st  and Sam Long earned 2nd  place individually.  They, along with Katy Mason, and Colby Carter won 2nd place team.
