Bluegrass Jamboree Will Want
To Watch For "Them Texas Boys"

In what is fast becoming a monthly tradition, Saturday night will be the night for Pickton's Bluegrass Jamboree, and will be featuring three groups of Bluegrass performers, "Them Texas Boys," "Grass Notes Band," and "Ellis County Bluegrass Band." However, folks from Hopkins County will want to pay special attention to "Them Texas Boys," a group out of the Longview-Pine Tree area. The band includes Bobby Owens, his daughter, Kathy Owens Blankenship, and her two sons, Barrett and Klint Blankenship.

If the "Owens" name sounds familiar, well, it was Bobby Owens and his wife, Dorothy, that made their home in Sulphur Springs for approximately 20 years, back in the 1960's and 1970's. Bobby was an engineer and operated a business in both Sulphur Springs and Yantis, during this time period. Kathy Owens Blankenship attended school in Sulphur Springs through her freshman year in high school, before the family moved to the Longview area, and had many friends in Hopkins County.

Friends and acquaintances will want to attend Saturday night's jamboree and come out to hear "Them Texas Boys." The program begins at 5:30 p.m. and lasts until the three groups complete their sets. Concessions will be available and you can obtain more information and the schedule of the groups, by calling (903)866-0415.
