Foods to Sample

The cooler temperatures this week has everyone anticipating a trip to Dallas, to the State Fair of Texas! It's a family tradition to go and look at the new automobiles, the livestock on display, and yes, to sample what is new in the way of carnival food, on the midway. It just says FALL in Northeast Texas!

Well, the list is out of the top eight entries in this year's food category on new and taste tempting treats at the 2010 State Fair of Texas, all vying for the trophy and "bragging rights" for the next year.

The list included:

Texas Fried Frito Pie....described as chili and sharp cheddar cheese, wrapped in crushed Fritos, battered and fried.

Deep Fried S'mores Pop-Tart - chocolate, peanut butter, s'mores flavor, battered and fried, and then drizzled with
chocolate syrup and topped with whipped cream.

Fried Beer.....yes, you heard right, it's described as a fried beer-filled pretzel, that you bite into and beer runs out
for a taste tempting dipping sauce. (May have to have the napkins for this one!)

Deep Fried Frozen Margarita - described as a sweet funnel cake batter mix, flavored with margarita ingredients, tequila
or tequila flavored wine, dusted with a lemon-lime flavoring and served in a margarita glass.

Fernie's Fried Club Salad - (yes, you can get your veggies fried too) a spinach wrap that includes diced ham, diced chicken,
shredded lettuce, carrot strips, cheddar cheese, tomatoes, and bacon, fried and topped with
deep-fried sourdough croutons, served on a bed of romaine lettuce.

Fried Lemonade - (now this one says CARNIVAL with a Capital "C") - a lemon-flavored pastry made with lemonade, baked,
and then fried and glazed with a mix of lemonade, powdered sugar, and lemon zest.

Fried Chocolate..... imagine white chocolate, a cherry stuffed brownie, dipped in chocolate cake batter and then deep fried. It
is then topped with powdered sugar and a cherry sauce and served with chocolate-flavored whipped cream.

Texas Fried Caviar....and this recipe uses famous blackeyed peas (you don't get any more East Texas than that), they are blended
with special spices, seasonings, and deep fried.

As you can see, your taste palate will be "stretched" as you head to this year's State Fair of Texas, in October. Make your plans to spend a day tasting "gourmet" foods, riding your favorite ride, and possibly even winning a stuffed Teddy Bear, at a game of chance. It doesn't get much better than that!
