Paranormal? Scientific? or Spiritual?
The Phenomenon of The Standing Broom
by: Bobby McDonald
With what began in, a soon to be opened consignment shop, in Prattville, Alabama, back in August, the phenomenon of the "standing broom," has literally "swept" the U.S., with people trying to explain what is taking place. A lady in the Autauga County, Alabama, hamlet of Prattville, was cleaning the floors of her shop, prior to opening, and noticed that her plastic broom would stand on its own, for hours, out in the middle of the floor.

The broom that she'd purchased at The Dollar General Store, for $2.99, was made out of light-weight materials and some tried to explain it away as simply the materials that the broom was made of. One or more people who, saw the broom, attempted to explain the standing broom, in a scientific format, using physics, gravitational pull when the moon and the sun aligned, or the atmospheric or barometric pressure. Then others, attempted to connect it to some paranormal phenomenon, with the approaching Halloween season. It wasn't long before a minister adopted the spiritual theory, that it had something to do with the Holy Spirit!

After hearing about the "strawstruck" Alabamians, we decided to see if the same set of conditions would result in a "standing broom" in our own Hopkins County. Soon, "standing brooms" were "popping up" everywhere. And, the same type results could be found using a regular straw broom, as happened with the ones made of the plastic materials.
What's your explanation? Is it gravitational pull? Is it an example of balance? Does it have something to do with the atmosphere or barometric pressure? Or, is it just the Ol' Halloween witch, coming out from hiding, this October?
Go home, get your broom out, and see if yours will stand alone in the middle of the floor?
