A "Tough" Loss in Waco, Ends Wildcat's Season
by: Bobby McDonald
It was a high scoring game, with 102 points put on the board, but the "chips" fell the other way, from the Wildcats, as they suffered a "tough" loss to the Bastrop Bears, in Midway Stadium, in Waco, Friday night. "We couldn't stop 'Josiah,' the explosive quarterback for Bastrop, who seemed to collect just the amount of yardage in critical situations and when they were needed!" commented Coach Greg Owens, following the disappointing loss. "He got the coverage and was able to thwart our defense in a number of situations, that allowed them to out score us and put points on the board, when they needed them!"
The Wildcats put the first 3 points on the board, but soon found themselves playing "catch-up," as they Bastrop Bears scored two touchdowns, quickly.
At halftime intermission, the Bears lead 21-10, and quickly increased that lead to 28-10, immediately following the half.
However, the Wildcats weren't "dead" yet, they managed to score two touchdowns, quickly and covered the difference, to remain in the ballgame. However, a pair of penalties put them deeper in the hole, and in the finaly analysis, the Wildcats were overcome by the quickness and the ability of the Bears to score in critical moments of the game.
The final score was the Wildcats 44 and Bastrop 58.
