SSISD Illness Figures
Still Below Other Schools
by: Bobby McDonald
A report from SSISD Superintendent Patsy Bolton's Officer revealed that the illness rates that have some schools to close are steadily below other schools in the local district. "We're holding steady at approximately 9% of the students in SSISD being out due to illness," reported Bolton. "The Texas Education Agency recommends that you continue to conduct classes as long as 85% or more of the students are in the classroom and we're fortunately managing to stay above that number!"
Bolton added that hopefully this is a sign that both students and parents are taking precautions to protect their children from the illnesses that are plaguing other districts and that possibly we have been fortunate to remain more healthy than other areas. "It's one of those things that you never know from one day to the next, how hard you will be hit!" continued Bolton. "We have the safety and the health of our children at stake here, and want to make certain that everything is being done to curb illness, but you never know when you may be hit with a large number of sick children!"

Figures released at the various schools, on Wednesday, reflected that Sulphur Springs High School and Douglas Intermediate School were the hardest hit schools in the system. The Sulphur Springs High School had an almost 15% rate of sick students out of the classroom, while Douglas reported a 10% rate. Rates by the individual schools in the system are as follows:
