A regular meeting of the Sulphur Springs ISD school board was held on Monday, June 14, 2010.
PUBLIC FORUM
No one requested to address the Board during the Public Forum section of the meeting.
ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS
Richard Crump, Architect, gave a construction update on the multi-purpose facility and the new Middle School campus. A copy of the update will be posted on the district website.
Betty Lawson reported on the end-of-year Texas Primary Reading Inventory (TPRI) scores. Members were provided with copies of the report.
Judy Caskey, external contact member, gave an Executive Summary Update from the SSHS Campus Intervention Team (CIT). She said that the spring science TAKS score percentages had increased from last year. She commended John McCullough, Glenda Wright, Betty Lawson and Patsy Bolton for their support during the process. She said it was an honor to work with the high school administrators and teachers. In the summary, Caskey made eight recommendations for improvement.
Betty Lawson reported on Sulphur Springs ISD summer activities which include summer school classes, TAKS tutoring & retesting and the Summer Child Nutrition Program.
Randy Reed reported on the Credit by Exam testing dates for the 2010-2011 school year.
Randy Reed reported that the date for the 45 day contract release notification [board policy DFE(LEGAL)] will be July 8, 2010.
Board members were given copies of the Head Start Annual Report for the 2009-2010 school year. Patsy Bolton commended Hillary Young and the Sulphur Springs ISD Head Start staff and noted that the district has one of the best programs in the state, if not the nation.
ACTION ITEMS
Along with routine matters, the Board approved the following:
Quarterly Investment Report for the three months ended May 31, 2010.
Revision to local board policy FMH(LOCAL) which now will read “Students who have satisfactorily completed all coursework requirements for graduation but have failed to meet applicable exit level testing requirements shall not be allowed to participate in commencement activities and ceremonies”.
Contracted service agreements for the 2010-2011 school year with Region VIII Education Service Center.
