

SSHS Competes At UIL Meet
Over Weekend

The Sulphur Springs High School UIL Team traveled to Pine Tree for a practice meet, on Friday and Saturday, January 8th and 9th, competing against many schools and walking away with great results. "It was some very tough competition and I'm proud of the way our students performed," stated Gena Wilder, UIL Sponsor. "They've worked hard and competed well with the competition across Northeast Texas!"
The following are the placings of the individual students and teams from SSHS, in the weekend competition:
In Science, Courtne Anderson placed 5th with Tyler Aaron placing 6th in the 11th grade division.
In Journalism, Autumn Keiss earned 6th place in feature Writing and Emily Mason earned 6th place in Editorial Writing.
In Computer Applications, Courtne Anderson earned 2nd place and Jessica Cowley earned 6th place.
In Computer Science, Jeff Spears earned 1st place and Taylor Ausbrooks earned 5th place individually. Autumn Keiss, Arthur Harbin, and Kade Koon also helped the team earn a first place team win.
In Accounting, Syndi Nguyen placed 3rd, Sam Long placed 4th, and Kyle Mathes placed 5th. George Green and Alexus Dismukes also participated and helped the team to win 1st place.
In Current Events, Taylor Moore placed 2nd, Sam Long placed 3rd, and Bailee Petty placed 6th. The team won 2nd place.

In Literary Criticism, Katy Mason placed 1st, Emily Mason placed 2nd, and Jessica Cowley placed 5th. Colby Carter and Leah Hayes helped the team to win 1st place.
In Spelling and Vocabulary, Lyndsi Bible won 1st, Kelsey Brown placed 3rd, and Ashley Clegg placed 4th individually. Andrew Wallace and Silvia Gudino helped the team win 1st place.
In Ready Writing, Emily Mason earned 1st place, Autumn Keiss earned 2nd place, Leah Hayes earned 4th place, and Colby Carter earned 6th place individually.
In Social Studies, Sam long won 4th place individually. He, Katy Mason, and Colby Carter won 3rd place team.
In Persuasive Speaking, Andrew Marks won 6th place.
In Cross-Examination Debate, Katy Mason and Autumn Keiss won 3rd team.
The Wildcat UIL Academic Team also brought home the 2nd place sweepstakes trophy.
"This was a very tough meet. Five of the seven schools in our district competed at the meet," continued Wilder. "It gives us a peek at district competition and shows us that we must remain diligent in our preparation for district. I’ve very proud of our students. They did a great job!"
