Honors Athletes, Monday Night

Monday night was a night of celebration in the Sulphur Springs High School Cafeteria, as the annual All-Sports Banquet recognized youth in 17 sports and 49 teams, for their outstanding accomplishments, for the past year and over a four-year period of their high school careers. The evening began with a welcome by Booster Club member, Craig Roberts, and a BBQ meal catered by Big Smith BBQ.
Colby Suggs provided the Invocation and Athletic Director Greg Owens recognized the Wildcat Band, Wildcat Cheerleaders, and the Blue Blazes Drill Team members with special awards for their support and spirit.
First award of the night went to Juan Reez who received the Special Olympics Most Valuable Player Award, for his participation and school recognition.
Next, Senior Football Players presented Owens with an award that denoted they were the first team that had began with him as freshman and completed four years in his program.
Coach Carrell was the next presenter, as she introduced the group of young ladies that had served as student athletic trainers for the various teams, throughout the year. Senior Bailey Godwin was named Trainer MVP.

Coach Small arrived at the podium and introduced members of the Lady Wildcat Volleyball Team, and named Members of the 2009 Team as MVP's.
Members of the Varsity Lady Wildcat Volleyball Team were awarded MVP's.
Coach Greg Owens returned to the podium to introduce the members of the 2009 Wildcat Football Team and presented the MVP to the Senior members of the team, extolling the many, many accomplishments the group has accomplished since the began their careers in 7th grade. "You've done it all!" exclaimed Owens. "And, I know that with 13 of you headed to play college ball and others pursing degrees in a number of fields, that we'll continue to hear of your many, many accomplishment! You've left a legacy that will be almost impossible to duplicate!"
Senior Football Team members were named Football MVP's.

Coach Andy Holt came forward and presented members of the Girls and Boys Cross Country Teams for recognition, next. He named Megan Massey and Ayana Taylor as the Girl's Cross Country MVP's and named Preston Weaver as the winner of the Boy's Cross Country MVP Award.

Next on the agenda was Coach McDonald, as she presented the Lady Wildcat Basketball Team. She named Ashanti Ivery as the Lady Basketball MVP and Kayla Phillips for the Leadership Award.

Coach Curtis then presented members of the Wildcat Basketball Team, praising them for their continued work ethic and dedication. He presented Joey Davis with the Wildcat Basketball MVP.

Coach DeLeon next presented the members of the Lady Wildcat Soccer Team and named Senior Macy Hurley, this year's MVP.

Coach Andy Holt then introduced members of the District Champ, Wildcat Soccer Team. He then named Senior Rodrigo Larios as the MVP.

Coach Blaylock introduced the Wildcat Powerlifting Team and named Senior Andrew Burton, this year's MVP.

Tennis Coach Lovett next presented the Girl's and Boy's Tennis Teams and told of the many accomplishments they had met, during the past season. He named Karen Morrow, Girl's Tennis MVP and the entire Senior Team Boy's MVP.

Coach Steve Carter next arrived at the podium and introduced the Girl's Varsity Golf Team, naming Miranda Conway as the Golf MVP.

Boy's Golf Coach Funk, next arrived to introduce the members of the Boy's Varsity Golf Team, naming Court Walker, as this year's Boy's Golf MVP.

Coach Matt Young arrived at the podium and introduced the Girl's Track Team, commending them for a year of hard work and dedication. He then named Ashanti Ivery as the Girl's Track MVP.

The Boy's Track Team was recognized by Coach Jeff Riordan, as he told of the many fetes the team had accomplished, naming seniors Preston Weaver, Bryant Jackson, Garrett Ferguson, and Shane McQueen as co-MVP's.

Coach Carillo arrived at the podium and began his annual ritual of introducing each member of the Lady Wildcat Softball Team with a unique "nickname." He then named the senior members of the team as the MVP's for 2010.

Coach Hammack next introduced the members of the Wildcat Baseball Team, who continue their winning ways, with a series in the State Quarterfinals against Cleburne, beginning Thursday night. He praised the team members and asked the community to continue to support them in the play-offs.

be named at a later date.

Coach Carillo next returned to the podium to name the James Cameron Fighting Heart Award. He extolled the virtues of the fighting spirit that the young lady had exhibited and the many obstacles that she had overcome, before naming the recipient as Jamonica Hall.

Coach Abron came to the podium to name the Boy's James Cameron Fighting Heart Award and began his presentation with the leadership qualities of the recipient, both on and off the field, before naming Triston Crook for the award.

and earlier in the night had been presented the
Old Spice Red Zone Player of the Year Football Award, as well.
Highlight of the banquet was the naming of the Forrest Gregg MVP Awards, denoting the outstanding athletes at SSHS. "If my own daughters can emulate the qualities of this year's MVP Lady Wildcat, I will be most proud!" expressed Coach Matt Young, as he named Ashanti Ivery as the 2010 recipient. "She is truly and outstanding young lady on and off the field and an example to everyone!"

"We have two recipient of this year's Boy's Forrest Gregg MVP," announced Coach Jeff Riordan, before naming Colby Suggs and Shane McQueen for the coveted award. "These two young men are outstanding athletes, model young men, and leaders in our school, on their teams, and in the community. Both have outstanding college careers ahead of them, as they continue to compete!"
