Ag Mechanics Program at SSHS
Preparing For State Fair Show
by: Bobby McDonald

You might have seen the lights burning late at the Sulphur Springs High School Vocational Agriculture Shop, as students are now working on projects that they will be entering in the State Fair of Texas Ag Mechanics Show. "The State Fair of Texas opens on Friday, with the Ag Mechanics Show being later in the schedule of the Fair," advised Vocational Agriculture Teacher Dan Froneberger. "We're working on the projects to get them ready!"
"The Fair is always a challenge for us," explained Froneberger. "With school just beginning and students getting accustomed to the schedule of classes, it's difficult for us to have large projects ready for the State Fair. We tend to enter more projects in the Houston and San Antonio Shows, because we have more time to get them planned and built, as they are in the spring!"

Froneberger has some 65 students in class on a daily basis, and each of them are involved in planning and constructing projects for the shows and to sell at the annual FFA Stew and Auction, that is held during the spring semester. "The projects are a great learning experience for the students and they gain skills of figuring a bill of materials, examining costs, and then the actual construction of the project," allowed Froneberger. "Then, on the larger projects that require several students to work together, they learn team work and having the responsibility to complete their share of the load!"

The Sulphur Springs Ag Mechanics students have a number of projects currently in the shop and you would enjoy a visit, just to see the many items they are constructing and have in progress!
Best of Luck to the SSISD Ag Mechanics students at the upcoming State Fair of Texas Show!!!
