FFA Banquet Highlights Successful Year

2009-10 Sulphur Springs FFA Officers led the the activities as the Parent-Member Banquet on Thursday night.

On Thursday night at 6:00, in the Sulphur Springs High School Cafeteria, a "time-honored" tradition unfolded. The 77th Annual Sulphur Springs Parent-Member FFA Banquet was hosted by the local FFA Chapter to highlight the year's many accomplishments and to present awards to outstanding students in project work and classroom studies, while honoring the parents of the students for helping to make the year outstanding.

Thursday night's banquet began with a Welcome by toastmaster for the evening, Morgan Lampp, President of the Sulphur Springs FFA Chapter, for 2009-10, and BBQ meal catered by Big Smith BBQ.

"This is probably one of the oldest continuous events in Hopkins County!" remarked guest photographer, Rex Wilemon. "I was cleaning-out some files a few weeks ago and 'ran across' some old black and white photographs of the FFA Banquet back in the 1960's when it was hosted in the Old Junior High Gym, on Connally Street, and then when I was in high school at Sulphur Springs High School, the local Jazz Band was the official band for the State FFA, and we traveled to the state conventions, in whatever city was hosting them for that year....some great, great memories!"

 

Chapter Vice-President, Jackson Massey, provided the invocation and FFA members Talon Bell, Colten Froneberger, and Cabo Sanvig, conducted the Presentation of the Flags.

Sanvig then presented the 2009-10 Officers, as they made their way to the front of the banquet area, and Chapter Sentinel, Allie Vazquez, presented the official welcome. Jace Orren, Chapter Secretary introduced the guests at Thursday night's banquet.

Scholarship awards were the first to be presented with the Cecil Tucker Memorial Scholarship, in memory of longtime Hopkins County Dairy Farmer and Registered Holstein Breeder, being presented to Morgan Lampp. The Sterling and Eva Beckham Memorial Scholarship for $500.00, in memory of longtime Vocational Educator Sterling Beckham and his wife, Eva, a 2nd grade teacher at Austin School, was presented to Jace Orren, to continue his education.

The Sulphur Springs Young Farmer Scholarship was presented to Brittni Bailey for outstanding participation in the chapter's activities. And, the Keith Park Memorial Scholarship, in memory of former Ag Teacher, Keith Park, was presented to Colton Frazier.

Greenhand Degrees were presented to the following first year members of the local FFA Chapter: Kelsie Adams, Kaylee Anderson, Veronica Bailey, Talon Bell, Maci Brantley, Morgan Brown, Brianna Cartwright, Dustin Churchman, Jennifer Davis, Dashea Dobson, Mason Doss, Chris Froge, Colten Froneberger, Matt Harris, Reese Harrod, Brendon Henderson, Andrea Kilander, Chase Koon, Dixe Matlock, Morgan McCoy, Damien Morel, Matthew Nelson, Fernando Reyes, Ty Rich, Carson Rielso, Josh Roach, Ashlin Rosamond, Rowdy Sachs, Noe Sanchez, Cabo Sanvig, Seth Savage, Larret Scott, Kyle Seale, Hayden Smith, Luke Smith, Cortni Steele, Christopher Thorn, Daniel Torres, Andrea Vazquez, Dylan West, and Justin Yeager.

Chapter Farmer Degrees were presented to the following 2nd year members: Lyni Anderson, Dakota Brown, Bradford Diener, Ashley Gregory, Alleigh Harland, Brian Irby, Michael Law, Luke Masters, Collin Mayeux, Colby Parker, Chris Self, Colten Skinner, Micah Stalcup, and Zac Thrush.

The Outstanding Greenhand Award was presented to Talon Bell for his participation in a variety of activities in the local FFA Chapter.

 


Talon Bell received the Oustanding Greenhand Award.

 

Voted on by her fellow officers, Allie Vasquez, was presented Officer of the Year, by Chapter President Morgan Lampp.

Allie Vasquez, Chaper Sentinel, was presented with the Officer of the Year Award.

 

Chapter Advisor, Amber Norris, in her first year teaching in Sulphur Springs, was given a wonderful surprise, as Chapter members voted her to receive the Honorary Chapter Farmer Degree, for her outstanding contributions to the chapter, this past year. In presenting the award, they highlighted her expertise in the horticulture lab, classroom, and her ability to make learning fun and enjoyable! "And, we've played a few jokes on her this year, too!" advised Chapter Vice-President, Jackson Massey.

 

First Year Chapter Advisor, Amber Norris, center was presented the coveted Honorary Chapter Farmer
degree by FFA Officers, Colby Parker and Morgan Lampp, at Thursday night's banquet.

 

 

Norris, then, in duties related to being one of the advisors, announced the FFA Awards in a number of project areas. Award winner were as follows:

Morgan Lampp and Jace Orren were presented with the FFA Member of the Year Awards.

 

Officers of the FFA Chapter then called their parents to the front of the room, and thanked them for their help and support in all areas of the chapter activities, including leadership camps, state conventions, ag mechanics shows, stew and auction, and project show preparation.

 

Caleb Frazier introduced and thanked his parents.

Thursday night's 77th Annual FFA Banquet ended with the traditional FFA Closing Ceremonies and the students who had participated in the annual FFA Project Show receiving their monetary rewards for a successful event.
