Seymore Church of Christ
To Mark 60th Anniversary, Sunday
by: Bobby McDonald

This Seymore Church of Christ baptizing was held at the "Sartin Pool," that was located on
Mr. Jim Sartin's Property, on the hill, going from Seymore to Arbala. The pool was used until
at least the 1960's for all baptisings.
To most people passing south of Sulphur Springs, approximately 9 miles, on Highway 154, the little white building, on the east side of the road, is no more than a small little country church. But, to families associated with the rich history of the small church, a lifetime of memories exist, from baptizings in the "pool" up on the hill, former preachers, and many, many former members who have "gone on to greater rewards."
This is a photo of members exiting the building in the 1980's, including Janet Douglas,
Mrs. Virgie Sartin, Mary Attlessey, Laura Teer), and Linda Avis.
"We have the original minutes and order of worship for the first service, held at this location," advises Kenneth Douglas, who remembers that first service. "It was on October 23, 1949, that we moved this little building from the Grubbs or 'Grubtoe' community, south of here, about 4 miles, and began worshiping at this location. Several families joined the ones of us who had worshiped at Arbala and we all joined together."

Longtime members of Seymore Church of Christ were Billy and Faye Douglas
and L.C. and Ginnie Douglas (getting in the car).
Douglas named many people from the little community who had once attended services at the small church and stated that all of the current members were seeking "kin" of those members, in hopes of them joining them for the 60th Anniversary, on Sunday, November 1st. "We want children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, to come back on Sunday, and share their memories," expressed Douglas. "Then, we plan on going to the Yantis Community Center for a 'pot-luck' lunch, and share even more of those memories. The morning worship service will be at the regular 10:30 a.m.!"

The Petross and Darden families have been longtime members and still attend
services at Seymore Church of Christ.
